Polyaspartic Coating Technology
Understand why product formulation and application conditions matter as much as the coating family name.
Talk through your facility's requirementsWhat the name describes
Polyaspartic coatings belong to a family of reactive resin systems. Covestro's technical overview describes polyaspartic chemistry forming aliphatic polyureas. This classification does not mean that all polyaspartic products have identical application or performance characteristics. [P1]
Why the product matters
As a specific example, Sika describes Sikafloor-521 as a high-solids, fast-curing, UV-resistant coating suitable for defined binder and topcoat uses. Its documentation also identifies temperature and humidity as factors affecting working time. A fast-curing product still needs a suitable substrate, compatible layers and an installation plan matched to its instructions. [P2]
Questions before choosing a system
- Is the proposed material a base layer, binder or topcoat in this assembly?
- What substrate and moisture conditions are acceptable for the exact product?
- How will temperature and humidity affect application and return to service?
- What documentation addresses cleaning chemicals, spills, wear and sunlight?
- What maintenance and future recoating will the complete system require?
Compare the complete proposal
Avoid choosing on a universal “one-day” or “strongest coating” claim. Ask for a written system and schedule appropriate to the facility. Chemistry alone does not establish a guaranteed lifespan, suitability for every substrate, or the time vehicles and equipment can return.
